Argentina and the Lithium Triangle
Argentina possesses substantial lithium resources, mainly concentrated in the northwest region and thus plays a crucial role in the global lithium market. The region’s vast reserves contribute significantly to the lithium supply chain, supporting the growing demand for lithium.
The lithium occurrences lie in the so-called ‘Lithium-Triangle’, which holds almost 2/3 of world’s lithium reserves containing high-grade brine deposits.
Currently China is one of the largest producers of lithium with a share of almost a third of global production (Bloomberg). Nevertheless, Argentina is expected to become the second-largest Li exporter by 2031, and LMC aims to become an important player in the area. The ambition to operate sustainably makes the big difference: LMC has set itself the goal of mining lithium sustainably.
